A POST-MORTEM performed on the body of Barama River miner James Goddett on Tuesday at the Suddie Funeral Parlour has revealed that he died as a result of serious injuries to his head and body. The miner, who had migrated from Friendship Canal in the lower Pomeroon River to Lima Sands Housing Scheme, was covered by tons of sand, rock and earth while working with another miner in a pit at Barama in the North West District last Sunday.
He was, however, quickly dug out by his colleagues, and was still alive when he was pulled out from under the earth. He died on the way to Charity.
Reports said Goddett had some 25 years’ experience working as a miner in the interior. (Rajendra Prabhulall)
