AN accident at the corner of Garnett and Middleton Streets last Thursday afternoon left two motor vehicles badly damaged and partly submerged in the Middleton Street trench, while one driver had to be rushed to hospital. The vehicles involved in the accident were a white Premio, PRR 9080, driven by a male who was rushed to hospital, and a burgundy RAV4, PJJ 4119. The female driver was on hand when this newspaper arrived at the scene of the accident, but declined to comment.
However, witnesses at the scene claimed that the burgundy RAV 4 was proceeding north along Middleton Street, while the white Premio was heading west along Garnett Street when the two vehicles collided at the junction.
It would appear that the RAV 4 did not give the Premio the right-of-way, but proceeded and crashed into the Premio, spun around and landed on the opposite side of the vehicle. In the process, the front left side of the Premio was badly bashed in. The bonnet of the RAV 4 was also damaged.
Police later visited the scene and both vehicles were towed away after statements had been given. (Shirley Thomas)
