A 24-year-old Haitian national was yesterday fined $30,000 by Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for entering Guyana illegally.Through an interpreter, Jonathan Joseph accepted that between March 6 and 9 at Lethem, he entered Guyana by crossing a land frontier and failed to present himself to an immigration officer.
The prosecution’s facts were as charged.
Joseph was unrepresented by an attorney-at-law. However, his failure to pay the fine will result in one month’s imprisonment.
