Police respond to Stabroek News editorial ‘Make it Happen’

THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) has responded to an editorial published in the Stabroek News of March 5, 2015, under the caption: “Make it happen”. The police said a paragraph in the article dealt with the alleged sexual assault of a four-year-old girl by her father in a mining community in the interior, and quoted the child’s mother as having “expressed concern that though she had reported the matter and the man was arrested, there had been no follow-through by the police.”
The GPF stated that having received the report of the alleged sexual assault on February 11, 2015, the ranks responded and arrested the child’s father on the very day. He was subsequently placed on bail on February 13, 2015.

Upon completion of the investigation into the matter, the file was submitted to the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on February 18, 2015, for legal advice.

It was later returned to the police for further investigations to be conducted into some areas that had been identified.

The investigations have since been completed and the file in this matter is presently in the process of being returned to the DPP for further advice.
