Jury convicts mother, lover in Neesa Gopaul’s ‘cold blooded’ murder
– Bibi Shareema Gopaul sentenced to 106 years, Barry Small gets 96 years
IN a much-anticipated ruling earlier this afternoon, a High Court jury found a mother and her former lover – both of whom were dubbed as “cold blooded” killers – guilty of the murder of her 16-year old daughter, Neesa Gopaul, almost five years ago.
Bibi Shareema Gopaul was sentenced to 106 years and Barry Small was sentenced to 96 years by Justice Navindra Singh.
Referring to the mother and her former lover as “cold-blooded killers”, State Counsel Diana Kaulesar in her impassioned closing arguments yesterday, presented to Justice Navindra Singh and a 12-member jury reasons why they should be found guilty of the murder of Neesa Gopaul.
Gopaul’s decomposed and seemingly ‘headless’ body was found in a suitcase in a creek along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway on October 2, 2010.
