TELCO Solutions in collaboration with several other businesses, on Sunday last, delivered food hampers to a number of underprivileged families on the West Coast of Demerara. The Telco Team and some of the donors personally packaged and delivered the hampers to less fortunate families in villages of Waller’s Delight, Cornelia Ida, Leonora, Stewartville and Zeelugt in an endeavour to give back to their communities.
The recipients of the hampers were recommended by donors residing in the respective communities.
This year marks the third consecutive year of Telco Solutions’ donation of Food Hampers to lesser privileged families.
Owner of the company, Mr. Richard Sukhdeo, said the initiative was started in 2012 when the company was formed and since then, it has grown from donating to approximately 10 houses to assisting 42 families over the three years. Sukhdeo added that this year the drive was done differently as he approached several businesses to give donations ranging from $5,000 – $10,000 and was subsequently able to produce a larger amount of hampers.
Other businesses which gave to the worthy cause included GuyParts Trading Inc (which has been a part of the project since its inception), KAS Furniture, Royal Link Auto Spares, Mary’s Sports Bar, Paul’s Auto Sales and Spares, Jagan’s Auto Spares, A Source of Decoration Company, Cool Masters, G&I Sawmills, Jhono Pawn Shop, Ramesh Tailoring, RI Trading, Unstoppable Spares, Jhonny Azeez Jewellery Est, and Mac’s Tyre Shop.
The hampers were inclusive of basic necessary foodstuffs such as flour, rice, garlic, onion, split peas, channa, potatoes, sardines and oil.
One recipient of a hamper from Waller’s Delight acknowledged her gratitude to the businesses, saying “It is very good, it helps us prepare things for the children and we are very thankful for the donation.”
Sukhdeo expressed his hope that more businesses will come on board with the annual project and support his goal of initiating a solidified organisation of businesses willing to give donations to communities across Region 3. (Raveena Mangal)
