Gang rape of 18- yr-old boy… Main suspect breaks silence in exclusive interview

BACKED by his mother, father and aunt, the 17-year-old young man who is being accused by the mother of an 18-year-old boy of organising a gang rape of her son yesterday accepted an invitation to share his side of the story with the Guyana Chronicle newspaper.Yesterday, the 17-year-old, who goes by the alias “Romel”, said he has no idea of any rape that was committed on his friend “Ravo” by himself or anyone associated to him on the day in question.
According to the young man, who spoke with this newspaper in the presence of his parents, explained that on Old Year’s night he invited Ravo to a party that was being held at his uncle’s place in Crane and which was attended by both male and female adults.
He said that about 17: 00hrs on that day “Ravo” confirmed that he was going to accompany him to the party and showed up at approximately 20:00hrs at the Vreed-en-Hoop junction.
The two then left for the party and by midnight they had returned to Romel’s home where they spent the night. The young man related that the following day Ravo woke up and took a bath, drank a cup of tea but refused to eat anything. Ravo then enquired from Romel if he can stay a bit longer to go another party that Romel was attending later that night and together they again went to the event.
It was there that young man began behaving strangely he recalled.
“As soon as this guy walked into the party he kept talking that someone wants to shoot him, a girl asked him if he will eat and he say he ain’t want nothing to eat and he ain’t want nothing to drink he start standing up one place all the time”
Romel said that when the young man began operating like that he said that he and his friends followed him and placed him in a minibus at which point he said that he was going to go at one of his sisters who lives in the sideline dam.
“He jump out of the bus and by the time we reach back at the party he was already there and say that someone wants to shoot him in the bus and he sat down and kept repeating that someone wants to shoot him in the bus”
The 17-year-old explained that by 20:00hrs that night they called a taxi and he, Ravo and a male and female friend joined the car. They stopped off at the Vreed-en-Hoop junction and allowed the car to proceed with Ravo and the female to their destination since the two of them lived in the same direction.
“I walking now to go home and he jump out the car and say I leave him alone, that someone inside the car wants to shoot he so the girl and the car man start to laugh, now he ain’t want to go inside and I stop another car and give the car man the money to drop him home, so now I did not know what going on after then, and I meet home like 9 o’clock and me ain’t know what happen” Romel told the Guyana Chronicle. He said that the next morning Ravo’s mother called him and said that her son had not come home yet. That was on the morning of January 2. The young man explained to this publication that he told the woman he placed her son in a car and he even explained that he tried calling him but was not getting any answer from his mobile phone.
Later that afternoon Ravo’s mother called him and said that he arrived home and said that she needed to talk to him. She told him nothing about her son being sexually assaulted.
