GROVE Hi-Tech, winners of the Ansa McAl Stag Beer Super 16 Knockout Tournament, were yesterday presented with their first-place cash prize of $1.5M by the sponsor at its Beterverwagting (BV) head office.
The East Bank Football Association (EBFA) affiliated club hammered Ann’s Grove United 5-0 when the final was held on New Year’s Day (January 1) at the Number 5 Ground in Berbice.
Ansa McAl’s Managing Director Beverley Harper said that her company was more than overjoyed at being the tournament’s only sponsor and thanked the clubs for making it one of the best held over the year-end period.
She added that the company remains committed to not only bringing smiles for the players and fans, but also developing the game of football in Guyana.
Ann’s Grove were awarded $500 000 for their second place finish, while New Amsterdam United, who defeated Cougars 5-1 to end in third place, walked away with $300 000.
Grove Hi-Tech prolific goalscorer Domini Garnett was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and also joint highest goalscorer with New Amsterdam United’s Adrian Adams; each with nine goals. The players, for winning individual awards, were given $25 000.
