LEADER of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), Brigadier (rt’d) David Granger, undoubtedly has a lot on his plate negotiating with the Alliance For Change (AFC) on a possible coalition in preparation for the upcoming elections, but his recent utterances has come under sharp focus over what many are now deeming outright deception.During his end of year press conference on December 19 last, Granger reported to media operatives what he called a descent into filth, as he decried a flyer that he revealed was being circulated in Region One (Barima/Waini) by a certain organisation which he said would remain unnamed.

The flyer in question, according to Granger, depicts a photograph of himself alongside German dictator, Adolph Hitler, and Iraq’s former Dictator President, Saddam Hussein.

“When you have political parties descending to that level of filth you can see the danger that we are running into as we go into General Elections next year,” a livid Granger said at the time.

“Adolph Hitler is a murderer, a mass murderer, how could any Guyanese conceive putting somebody like me, I mean, on the same flyer with Adolph Hitler; it is lunacy,” Granger said at the time.

The retired Brigadier, at the time recognised that Guyana was entering into what many called ‘silly season’ but lamented the fact that such actions can provoke very serious reactions.
Things however, took a dramatic turn a week later when Granger denied knowledge of the existence of such a flyer and further claimed to be at a loss for words.

At his initial press engagement, Granger claimed that while at the time he was not in possession of a copy of the flyer, he had seen it and that his press officer would make available copies to the media.

This never materialised.

Granger in his subsequent press conference then claimed that he had not seen the flyer but expressed dismay that such a comparison would ever be made.
“I can’t believe that…Who would do such a vile thing…I am lost for words because I can’t imagine any self-respecting political party in Guyana would compare a politician, a Guyanese politician who has never been convicted of an offence, with Adolf Hitler, a mass murderer.”
At the time he was adamant that he cannot believe that a political party would “stoop so low” to produce such a poster.
On the flyer, a photograph of Granger, was depicted in the middle of photographs of Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein, all dressed in military uniforms. The flyer asks the question “Is Guyana ready for a military dictator?”
