THE Government Analyst-Food and Drug Department (GA-FDD) has issued an advisory to importers/distributors of cosmetics, that all import licence applications and customs entries submitted to the department must be accompanied by invoices from manufacturers/authorised agents/wholesalers, which should include brand name, expiry date and country of origin.
This information is necessary to determine whether the cosmetic will be approved or be released for sale on the local market.
All cosmetic labels must be in compliance with the labelling requirements of the Food and Drug Regulations of 1977, Part V, Section (99-101). All labels must be in English. Additionally, upon request, samples must be made available for perusal and/ or analysis.
All cosmetics imported into Guyana must be approved by the Department and should arrive with at least seventy -five percent (75%) of its stated shelf-life.
