FIFTIES from Ben Dunk and Tim Paine and key knocks from Alex Hales and George Bailey helped Hobart Hurricanes gun down a 209-run target against Brisbane Heat in Hobart.
Scores: Hobart Hurricanes 4 for 209 (Dunk 67, Paine 55) beat Brisbane Heat 6 for 208 (Forrest 62, Peirson 57) by six wickets.
Dunk and Paine got the side off to a strong start, adding 120 in nine overs. Until the pair were at the crease, Heat managed to concede less than 10 in only one over as Dunk and Paine set a strong platform for Hurricanes. Both batsmen were dismissed within four overs but Hales kept the score ticking over with his 34 off 23 balls.
Hurricanes needed 30 off 17 when Hales was dismissed but Bailey provided boost at the end, smacking three fours and a six in his 12-ball 28 to take his side to victory with an over to spare.
The Heat openers, Jimmy Peirson and Peter Forrest, had also given their side a solid start, adding 119 inside 13 overs. Peirson and Forrest were dismissed in successive overs after scoring fifties and Heat switched gears slamming 87 off the last seven overs.
Dan Christian scored 34 off nine, hitting two fours and four sixes, and Ben Cutting swung three sixes on his way to an unbeaten 19 off five to help Heat finish at 6 for 208.
