SIX months jail was the sentence handed down to a 34-year-old man after he pleaded guilty to a threatening behaviour charge before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday.
The unrepresented convict, Noel Steve Rampersaud (no address given) pleaded guilty to the charge that said on October 31 at Upper Berbice River, he behaved in a threatening manner to Tyron Alli.
On the day in question the virtual complainant (VC) spoke to the defendant about a murder investigation matter and he became annoyed. Consequently, he threw gasoline at the VC’s house and threatened to burn it, said Police Prosecutor Michael Grant.
Rampersaud said in a request to the Chief Magistrate, “If I have to go to prison, please send me to Berbice, my family is there.”
However, the jail term was handed down after the Chief Magistrate considered the convict’s guilty plea, the fact that there were other occupants in the house and the prisoner’s prior carnal knowledge matter in 2013.
