THE Department of Industrial Development of the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce (MinTIC) is looking at the feasibility of establishing a bottle manufacturing plant to meet the needs of local agro-processors.
The Department recently invited tenders for a study on this project, saying that the need for such a facility was adumbrated by stakeholders during field work done for the preparation of sector profiles of medium and large scale operations in the manufacturing sector.
During the research exercise held last year, several recommendations were made to promote the growth of the manufacturing sector, one of which was establishment of a bottle manufacturing plant. A MinTIC publication disclosed that that ministry is now forging ahead to determine the feasibility of this project, particularly because of its mandate of lending support to the industrial development thrust of the country, and promoting development of various products and services.
Expressions of interest for a related study were invited from qualified persons, with the closing date being September 12th last. (Clifford Stanley)
