LEADER of the Opposition Brigadier David Granger yesterday was emphatic in expressing his confidence that no APNU Member of Parliament (MP) would fall prey to the alleged “buy out” by the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP).

The allegation was levelled by the Alliance For Change (AFC) Leader, Khemraj Ramjattan, who at a press conference last Thursday stated that his party had been “reliably informed” that the PPP/C Government, against whom the No-Confidence Motion has been filed, has plans to “buy out” at least three parliamentarians at $30M each to vote against the motion when it comes up for debate next month.
According to Granger, he is confident that those three individuals referred to by Ramjattan are not APNU MPs and furthermore, he was unaware that there was even an offer to “buy out” MPs by the PPP.
“I don’t know who made it up or where it came from,” the Opposition leader told reporters yesterday, adding that there has been no discussion between the ruling People’s Progressing Party and his )Opposition coalition to hold off the no-confidence vote.
After Ramjattan’s revelations at Thursday’s press conference, he was unable to provide evidence of the said allegations and also failed to disclose who were the targets for the “buying out” by the PPP.
He, however, assured that his party has put measures in place to ensure that its members do not buy into the PPP’s alleged plan, while noting that he was unable to give the position of APNU on the issue but from all indications, they seem to be holding close on a “yes” vote.
The Opposition leader yesterday, however, solidified his party’s position, re-assuring that the “buying out” would not befall APNU MPs.
In response to the allegations, the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) last evening issued a statement in which it deemed as “utter rubbish”, the so-called “public revelation” by the Alliance For Change (AFC) leader, Khemraj Ramjattan, that they ( the PPP/C) are attempting to “buy off” three parliamentarians at $30M each to vote against the ‘no-confidence’ motion.
The PPP in their statement further noted that it rejects this outrageous allegation and as such, challenges Ramjattan to forthwith disclose, publicly, the names of the three parliamentarians to which he made reference and to further make a full and frank public disclosure of all or any information which he claims he has received in relation to this matter.
