FIFTY – FOUR – year old waitress Debra Blackman was last evening fatally shot at her workplace where she served for over 14 years located between Halley and Durban Street, Georgetown by a man who went with an accomplice on a motor cycle.

She was at that time preforming her duties as a waitress/cashier when she was shot.
Her friend Maeva Gordon who operates a salon just opposite her work place told the Chronicle that just after 19:15 hours she was in her salon where she heard a loud noise but she thought it was the usual noise from the road which is normal around that time.
Ms. Gordon said she she would normally see Debra over the counter but on this occasion she did not see her.
She added that after she didn’t see her, she saw two men-one on a motor cycle and one in the restaurant who ran out and jumped on the motor cycle and they speedily rode off.
“I then ran out of my salon and went to see what was going on, when I go in the restaurant I see her body on the ground in blood and I was calling for her but she was not moving, the door was locked and her body was inside by the door” Gordan said.
After the shooting happened the police responded but was unable to trace the shooters.
Ms. Blackman’s body was removed by undertakers from the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
Up to press time this publication could not confirm what caused the shooting but we will continue to bring more updates upon this tragic story.
