VARIOUS communities, including Diamond, Eccles, Herstelling and New Amsterdam, are expected to benefit from road and other works after Cabinet last Tuesday granted its no-objection.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon provided the information when he met with reporters at the Office of the President, in Georgetown, to conduct his usual post-Cabinet press briefing.
According Luncheon, Cabinet granted its no-objection to the installation of a 200 millimeter transmission main from Sixth to Seventh Streets, Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, at a cost of $19.6M.
For the procurement of goods for the frequency upgrades at Guyana Water Inc. Shelter Belt in Georgetown, $129.9,000 and $334.7,000 pounds were approved.
Furthermore, the New Eccles Industrial Road will be upgraded at a cost of $65.9M while infrastructural development in Herstelling will cost some $226.9M.
Luncheon said $20.3M was approved for the installation of distribution mains at Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam.
Meanwhile, for 2014 an amount of $13.7B was budgeted to improve roads and bridges, of which $12.9B will be spent on roads and $844.2M on bridges.
Works are continuing on the four-lane access road to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) and the East Bank of Demerara four-lane highway, the West Coast of Demerara Road, and the Parika/Ruby backdam roads. Among other locations at which roads are being looked at are Canal Number One and Two, and East Bank Berbice.
