A PRIVATE security service responded yesterday, at about 04:15 hrs, to a report received that persons were stealing cables belonging to the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company Limited (GT&T) at Coverden, East Bank Demerara.

Police report that the security service confronted two men, and in process of effecting their arrest, one was shot and injured to his chest. His accomplice managed to escape.

The injured man has been identified as 19-year-old Alton Straker of Soesdyke, EBD. He has been admitted to the GPHC for medical treatment, even as police have launched an investigation into the matter.
