Apart from gender balance, one must also have balls
-Acting Town Clerk Sooba
ACTING Town Clerk, Carol Sooba told reporters yesterday that to survive in the Georgetown City Council while there must be gender balance, one also has to have “balls”.She was referring to the women and men who have been supporting her as Town Clerk, even as the Mayor and other persons in the Council have been working feverishly to undermine the work of her office.
The Government appointed Town Clerk said that with the ramblings in the City Hall, the work of the Council has been affected and the citizens are suffering tremendously.
She noted that, for the last seven statutory meetings of the Council, there were several things to be considered pertaining to citizens and business which they were unable to deliberate upon since the meetings were all politically charged.
Sooba mentioned dozens of building plans which the Council has to approve but which were never discussed since her agendas that are prepared for the meetings are usually quashed.
She added that the non-consideration of those documents have caused businessmen and women as well as other citizens to be affected financially, since many of them would have had various deadlines with the banks to provide certain documents.
According to the Town Clerk, the work of the Council is tremendously affected by the actions and directions which emanate from the building housing the Mayor’s Office and that of the Deputy Mayor and Public Relations Officer.
Sooba told the media that her job and that of her office is to serve the people of Georgetown and the interest of the city and ramblings and other agendas will only serve to hurt the capital.
She spoke of several other key works of the Council which cannot go on as well as business which is stalled because the statutory meetings are not being conducted in a manner which would see the matters coming up for discussion.
