Knifed Berbice teen sustained ten stab wounds
–death due to shock, and haemorrhage

FOURTEEN-year-old East Bank Berbician Tomesha La Toya Adams, who was knifed to death by her 23-year-old boyfriend, Kellon Sam, on Thursday, succumbed as a result of ten stab wounds inflicted on her body.

A post-mortem conducted on Adams’ body by Government Pathologist Dr Vivikanand Brijmohan, at the New Amsterdam Hospital, revealed that five wounds had been inflicted on her left side neck, three penetrative wounds

were registered on her oesophagus, another was on her upper back, and yet another was in the vicinity of her navel.

The pathologist summarized that death was occasioned by shock and haemorrhage due to multiple incised wounds.

Adams’s adopted mother, Marlyn Adams, stumbled upon the body of the third form student of the Berbice Educational Institute as she was among a throng of villagers responding to wails emanating from the home of Kellon Sam after his lifeless body had been discovered on Thursday, just before 06:00hrs, suspended from a mango tree behind his parents’ home at Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice.

Not knowing what had happened to her daughter, the elder Adams was hurrying through her back yard when she spotted the feet of her daughter, who had gone missing hours earlier.

This second discovery caused residents to become aware that a murder/suicide had occurred in the village, whereas persons had initially thought that Kellon Sam had merely committed suicide.

Tamesha Adams’ classmate and best friend told the Guyana Chronicle that her friend’s death has left her shaken. She was quick to add that she has learnt that young girls must not have relationships with older males, and they must listen to persons who attempt to offer them guidance.

The teen and her killer had begun their relationship over a year ago, but had a misunderstanding which resulted in her death sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Residents of the closely-knitted community were unaware of the tragedy until Sam’s younger sibling had seen his body hanging on the tree.

The pathologist confirmed that Kellon Sam died as a result of asphyxiation due to self-suspension.

The bodies of Sam and Adams have since been handed over to relatives for burial.
