RESIDENTS of Friendship/Buxton Village on the East Coast of Demerara can expect an unforgettable night, tomorrow, when the Guyana Boxing Association’s (GBA) ‘Nuff Cuff Injection’ heads to the Buxton Community Centre ground.

According to GBA president Steve Ninvalle and Technical Director Terrence Pool, the GBA is optimistic of another successful staging of the event which was first held in East Ruimveldt’s California Square.
Fifteen bouts are carded for the night, including three international fights featuring boxers from St Lucia, namely Ron Bastien, Arthur Langelier and Malanda Sinclair, coming up against some of Guyana’s Commonwealth Games hopefuls.
Guyana’s welterweight champion Eon Bancroft will touch gloves with Bastien, shortlisted Commonwealth Games hopeful Dennis Thomas is expected to fight Langelier and in the female match-up, St Clair goes toe-to-toe with Theresa London.
All of the country’s top gyms, including the New Opportunity Corps and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will be represented at the event, the GBA stated.
Members of the community, Poole said, are enthused about the prospect of hosting such an event in the sports-crazy village and as part of wanting to be involved, several residents will don gloves and other boxing kits and step into the ring to show off their skills in some face-offs.
Ninvalle believes that the ‘Nuff Cuff Injection’ card can be seen as testimony of how hard his GBA is working in decentralising the sport.
Meanwhile, Ninvalle said that his association is grateful for the corporate support they have received, namely from 90.1FM (www.iradio.com), Ansa McAl Trading, Trustees Pawn Shop, the National Sports Commission and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
“I must also thank the members of the various media for outstanding coverage and their support. We’ve been getting calls from overseas about this initiative and they’re being informed daily from the newspapers and television stations. So the GBA would like to say a special thank you to the media for their support,” Ninvalle said.
