Music set owner charged with unlicensed playing

POLICE have charged Thawn Balgobin with playing music at unlicensed premises for public entertainment.It happened after he, allegedly, played loud and continuous music for a function at his home without having the licence to do so.
But, the 22-year-old defendant, through his lawyer, Mr. Charrandas Persaud, told Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs- Marcus that the occasion was a birthday party and that it was not open to the public.
Particulars of the offence said it was committed on May 5, at Lot 918 New Area, Canefield, East Canje, Berbice, where the diesel mechanic lives.
Balgobin was put on $20,000 bail and bonded for six months. However, if he breaches the bond, a six weeks prison term will be imposed.
Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to Reliance Court, also in East Canje, for June 23.
