Fruta Conquerors remain unbeaten with win over Tigers
FRUTA CONQUERORS defeated BK Western Tigers 2-0 in a battle of the unbeaten sides when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Under-17 football league continued at the Tucville Community Centre ground last Thursday. The home side took the lead in the 21st minute through a Tefon Daly-lobbed attempt over the onrushing keeper that settled down the middle of the net, after being in a one-on-one position, while Delroy Holligan completed the well deserved victory with an easy finish in the 50th minute after collecting a left-sided pass all alone inside the centre of the six-yard box.
Meanwhile, Pele, led by double strikes from Kevin Andrews and Marlon Nedd, brushed aside the Mocha-based unit Riddim Squad by a 4-0 score line when matches in the competition were played at the same venue last Wednesday.
Andrews netted the opener in the 5th minute with a shot from the right side of the box that settled into the lower right hand side of the net and Nedd added his name to the scorer’s tab two minutes later, scoring with a penalty kick following a handled ball infringement inside the area.
Pele increased their lead as Andrews netted his second goal in the 29th minute, by lobbing the ball over the advancing goalkeeper, before Nedd completed the win and his brace in the 46th minute.
In the second game, home side Fruta Conquerors, through a Randy Layne double scored in the 2nd and 28th minutes of play, defeated Beacons 2-1, with Samuel Hunte scoring for the losers in the 17th minute through a penalty kick.
