HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS) and Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon, resumed his substantive duties this week after being ill for over two months.

And at a press conference yesterday at Office of the President, Dr. Luncheon confirmed that he is suffering from gastro-intestinal cancer, which has spread to some parts of his lungs.
However, the HPS explained that he has chosen not to undergo invasive surgery, although he acknowledged that this is not the ideal decision for persons in his circumstances.
“I have taken a decision not to do anything of an interventionist nature. That is what I want and that is what I’m abiding by,” Dr Luncheon said.
The HPS, responding to questions about a replacement to his office considering the gravity of his illness, noted that he is part of an undertaking to support the necessary capacity building.
“My contribution to this has been ramped up to ensure an efficient transition process,” he said.
According to him, this move is the responsible and sensitive action, given his duties as Head of the Presidential Secretariat.
The 65-year-old HPS has served in that capacity since the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) took the reins of power in 1992.
“My commitment is beyond doubt,” he stressed.
Dr. Luncheon added his words of appreciation to the many who supported him during his time “convalescing” at home.
“I love this country and I believe there are more people that love Luncheon than hate him,” he told reporters.
Dr. Luncheon’s duties are expected to be somewhat scaled back and he told reporters not to expect “vintage Luncheon” at his weekly post-cabinet press briefings.
Dr. Luncheon was diagnosed last year and in 2012 he suffered from a pulmonary embolism.
