PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – Trinidad and Tobago’s football president Raymond Tim Kee says CONCACAF president Jeffrey Webb’s visit to the island on Wednesday has provided a big lift for the local association.
Tim Kee was speaking after Webb made a five-hour visit to the island, meeting with football and government officials, and Trinidad & Tobago President Anthony Carmona.
“What Mr Webb said to us was in fact very encouraging as he made it known that Trinidad and Tobago is viewed as one of the leading nations in the region and that while FIFA and CONCACAF are aware of the challenging conditions with which we have been faced, they have also taken note of the strides that we have made over the past year or so and they are expecting even greater progress in the months ahead,” Tim Kee was quoted as saying.
The visit was Webb’s first official visit to the island since taking up the post as CONCACAF chief in 2012. Webb replaced long-serving Trinidadian political Jack Warner, who resigned amidst corruption allegations the previous year.
Webb, also a vice-president of football’s world governing body, FIFA, said T&T’s football had a bright future once the necessary positive steps were taken.
“Trinidad and Tobago has a legacy to maintain as one of the Caribbean’s best and I am certain that with a continued focus on training and forward planning, performances on the pitch and improvements to the TTFA administration will be realised in the near future,” Webb said.
