After fatal accident…Unlicensed driver also fined for insurance breach

MAGISTRATE Sunil Scarce has fined mini-bus driver Devanghn Fordyce of Dartmouth, $80,000 on conviction of being an unlicensed driver and breach of insurance.
The convict appeared at Anna Regina Court on Essequibo Coast last Tuesday and pleaded guilty to the two offences. He admitted that he took a chance and was driving along Clark Street in Dartmouth to get the licensed driver of the vehicle when an accident occurred.
Fordyce explained that he is the conductor of the bus, BRR 7143, which he drove through Clarke Street on March 23, knowing that he was not licensed to drive and, allegedly, killed eleven months old toddler Javiel Peters.
However Fordyce was not charged by Police for the alleged causing death when he made his Court appearance because traffic ranks were still investigating the fatality.
Fordyce was fined $40,000 for each of the charges on which he was convicted.
