$7,500 fine for breath alcohol level

MOTORIST Tajanarine Balram (no address given) Monday pleaded guilty before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, in New Amsterdam, Berbice, to driving a vehicle while his breath alcohol level exceeded the limit prescribed by law.

The driver of PRR 6421 admitted to the Court that he had drunk about 10 beers, when a police rank stopped him along the Canefield Public Road, East Canje, also in Berbice.
Police Sergeant Godfrey Playter, prosecuting, said that on January 24 last, Balram was stopped and, when he was tested, he was found to be above the 35 microgrammes allowed; in fact, he had 159 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath.
