TWO sisters appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan, on Thursday, facing a series of charges for offences allegedly committed on Christmas morning.
One of the women, Adina Mars, of Lot 275 Caneville, East Bank Demerara, pleaded guilty to having on December 25, at Stabroek, Georgetown, resisted arrest by Constable Kevin Hector, a police officer acting in the execution of his duty.
But she pleaded not guilty to another offence that said, the same day, while in a public place and hearing, she behaved disorderly.
Mars denied a third allegation that she unlawfully assaulted Constable Hector and damaged a jersey and vest, valued $4,000, belonging to him.
Police Corporal Dinero Jones, prosecuting, told the Court that it was around 03:00 hrs and Hector was on duty at the Stabroek mobile outpost when Mars went beyond the barriers beneath the building and urinated.
After the constable confronted her, she became annoyed and assaulted him and her other sisters joined in the assault.
URGENT CALL
Mars related that she had an urgent call of nature and met a policeman she knew before, whom she told about her situation and he directed her where to go and relieve herself.
According to her, Constable Hector then came and snatched her hand and she told him that he cannot pull a young lady like that. He then grabbed her from behind her pants, put her on the ground, handcuffed her and took her to the Brickdam Police Station.
For resisting arrest, she was fined $5,000 and placed on $10,000 bail for the other charges.
One other sister, Barbara Chance, of Lot 908 Caneville, also pleaded not guilty to disorderly behaviour and she, too, was ordered
to post $5,000 bail.
A summons was issued for Michelle Chance, who was also charged but failed to appear and the case will come up, again, on January 17.
