CONSTRUCTION worker Royston Winter of Lethem, Region 8, was yesterday refused bail and remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after he denied the allegation that, on December 23 at Tabatinga Mountain, he had in his possession 25 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking in narcotics.Police Prosecutor Corporal Bharat Mangru told the court that on the day in question, police on foot patrol saw the defendant sitting on a chair at Naresh Persaud’s residence, approached him, and found leaves, seeds and stem of the prohibited substance in a transparent plastic bag concealed in his right side pants pocket.
Prosecutor Mangru objected to bail being granted Winter, stating that no special reason was provided by the defendant for him to be granted bail.
Winter’s matter was transferred to the Lethem Magistrate Court for March 3.
