MEMBERS of the Bartica Police Station Youth Group were treated to their full satisfaction at a well-attended Christmas Party at the Bartica Police Station last Saturday afternoon.Through their facilitators, members of the Bartica Police Station Youth Group continue to make gains in all-round character development, especially with regard to educational and career skills development.
Since its inauguration earlier this year, the youth group has participated in educational programmes – through summer training camps, sporting events, and even in the recently held Gymkhana at Bartica.
The principal driver behind the Bartica Police forming this youth group is an ardent desire to continue developing the momentum achieved by the development of positive relations between the police and the Bartica community. There is also a fervent desire to mentor the youths to embrace the right and appropriate career paths.
This group exercise brought the curtains down on the youth group’s programme of activities for this year. It also defined an important level of police achievement in the gold mining community, and opened an avenue by which parents could interact with law enforcement personnel with the common purpose of helping to define uplifting career paths for the youths of Bartica.
Bartica is a community that is still on the road to psychological healing after the massacre of February 17, 2008.
The Christmas Party for Bartica Youths is another example of a community taking a collective step in the right direction. This event clearly augurs well for the development of positive relations between the police and the community.
