Lawyer claims murder accused framed by ex-lover

RAYMOND Shawn Tyson, of Lot 46 Kalicharran Sand Road, Soesdyke, East Bank of Demerara, who is facing a murder charge, was remanded to prison Monday by Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.Raymond-Shawn-TysonThe 28-year-old is accused of having between May 27 and 28 last, at Land of Canaan, also on East Bank of Demerara, murdered Khemraj (Tony) Singh alias ‘Fine Man.’

Police Corporal, Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, told the court that between March 27 and 28, at Land of Canaan, Singh was killed at his place of employment by person or persons unknown and his death followed a previous incident after his ‘Blackberry Curve’ cellular phone was lost.
Subsequently, it was discovered that the accused was using the phone but he refused to say how he gained possession of it. However, the file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) chambers, from where it was advised that the accused be charged with the offence, the prosecutor related adding that there are 22 witnesses in the case.
Attorney-at-law Mr. Nigel Hughes, representing Tyson, claimed the latter is being framed by a young lady with whom he shared a previous relationship.
Their relations
The lawyer said when Tyson terminated their relations, the woman was not pleased and, although the man remained in the village for two months, he was never contacted by any police.
It was after Tyson left to work in the interior that he was implicated with the death of Singh and, on his return to Georgetown 10 days ago, was arrested by Police Officer Lowe, with whom the woman who framed him was seen on Sunday.
Hughes added that friends of the accused were contacted, threatened and intimidated by the officer not to give any evidence in the matter.
Defence Counsel stated, further, that there is an alibi witness who fled the village out of fear and he asked that the person be interviewed by another police rank other than Lowe.
The case was postponed to March 3, 2014, for commencement of the preliminary inquiry (PI).
