K&S/Chico Elite Next Generation Tournament

Double-header on this afternoon at GFC

ACTION in this year’s inaugural Kashif and Shanghai/Chico Elite Next Generation Football tournament continues today at the Georgetown Football Club ground, where an exciting double-header is planned for the hundreds of schoolchildren who are expected to witness the action free of cost.

In the first match which kicks off at 16:00hrs, North Georgetown Secondary will go head-to-head with Patentia Secondary, followed by the important fixture between Charlestown Secondary and one of their nemeses from the South Georgetown area – Dolphin Secondary.
Already, Ann’s Grove and East Ruimveldt have made their way into the next round, following their contrasting victories on the opening day over Christ Church Secondary and Wisburg Secondary School respectively.
East Ruimveldt clawed their way back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Wisburg Secondary from Linden 3-2 on penalty kicks after the game finished with a 3-3 scoreline, while Ann’s Grove showed no mercy to Christ Church, drubbing their opponents 9-1.
The winners of the tournament which culminates on January 1 2014 (New Year’s Day) will pocket a record G$1.2M with 75% going towards a project identified by the school, along with the Championship trophy and 25 replicas which will be on display throughout the tournament.
The second-, third- and fourth-placed finishers will receive $750 000, $500 000 and $250 000 respectively, with 75% going towards a project as well, while the second- and third-placed teams will be presented with silver and bronze medallions and the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) one laptop and a stint with a Trinidad and Tobago pro-team.
