Double-header on at GFC this evening in GFA/Banks Beer football

THE Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Banks Beer Knock-out Football tournament will continue this evening at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC), ground with a double-header.

In the opening game which is set for a 18:00hrs start, Northern Rangers face Black Pearl, while from 20:00hrs Net Rockers will oppose Flamingo.
The knock-out tournament has attracted 32 teams but to date 12 of the teams have been eliminated, some in high-scoring fixtures.
Already, 12 teams have reached the second round and after tomorrow’s double-header, another two teams will book their place in the second round which is scheduled to get under way on Sunday.
The 12 teams that have been eliminated from the $13M tournament are: Essequibo, Houston Stars, Seawall United, Topp XX, Grove Hi-Tech, Botofago, GFC, Beacon, Fruta Conquerors, Cougars, Silver Shattas and Riddim Squad.
Essequibo went down by a 0-10 margin to defending champions Sunburst Camptown on the opening day of the tournament (November 23) at the GFC ground. That day also, Topp XX lost by a 0-1 margin to Pele.
Santos thrashed Houston Stars 10-1 and Seawall United were beaten 2-0 by Buxton United.
Grove Hi-Tech suffered a 0-8 humiliation at the hands of Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Banks Premier League point leaders Alpha `The Hammer’ United and Botofago lost 1-6 to the Guyana Defence Force.
GFC were beaten 2-0 by BV/Triumph and Beacon suffered a close 0-1 loss to Milerock, one of four Linden teams still in contention of winning the first prize of $4M plus the winners’ trophy.
Fruta Conquerors were stunned in a penalty shoot-out with Berbice’s Monedderlust, losing by a 3-5 margin after the two sides were locked 1-1 at the end of regulation and extra time.
Cougars of Berbice lost 1-3 to Slingerz of West Demerara, while Silver Shattas were edged 2-3 by Den Amstel.
Riddim Squad, from whom much was expected, lost 4-5 in a penalty shoot-out with Mahaica Determinators.
Meanwhile, the knock-out tournament will continue on Friday with another double-header that will see Guyana Police Force come up against Winners Connection from 18:00hrs and BK Western Tigers take on Kwakwani Strikers from 20:00hrs.
Both matches are scheduled for the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, Linden.
