MISS Guyana Universe/Miss New GPC INC/Limacol, Katherina Roshana was Guest of Honour at an annual gala presentation, dinner and show by Visions 2013, an annual show in New York City displaying Caribbean talent through cultural singing and dance. It is always a colourful get together of Guyanese with Caribbean people and the American population and supporters.
Beauty ambassador, Miss Guyana Universe 2013, who is sponsored by the New GPC Corporation and Limacol and who is also the reigning Miss India Guyana 2013 and the Miss India Worldwide Most Beautiful Skin 2013 was invited as the Guest of Honour, whose function in addition to meeting and greeting Guyanese in the Diaspora, and encouraging them to return to invest and serve in their Motherland Guyana, she had to also deliver a motivational talk addressed to all at the annual function, but particularly the youths there, and which was transmitted to youths everywhere.
Katherina Roshana issued a persuasive call of patriotism to the Guyanese diaspora to invest in Guyana; to re-migrate and help build this virtually untapped country with new industries and businesses; to return and create opportunities and wealth for themselves and employment and wealth for the local population. For them to make Guyana known internationally, with a powerful treasury so that we do not have to look for aid to help our citizens and economy, but that we can help and give to others. She said: “We have the resources, the minerals in the earth – diamond, gold, uranium, manganese, oil, bauxite for aluminium, tin.” She said also so much more is to be found and exploited in the name of our great and beloved Guyana.
She spoke of our vast freshwater resources, which can also be exported for wealth. She also spoke about our garbage which could be recycled and bring economic benefits and she referred to the plastics, Styrofoam which litter trenches and drains, and the old motor vehicles and factories, which can be converted to new steel and rubber.
She asked: “Why must we import welding electrodes, even brooms for sweeping.” She questioned and drove into the minds of the guests and participants at the show, that we have extraordinary capacities for industriousness, and ingenuity in business.
She noted that Guyanese are helping to build foreign nations and economies and usually re-migrate when they get old, and cannot stand the cold, when they need the warmth of the climate, the peace of the country and the wholesale and wholesome love of the Guyanese energising climate, and can only receive their pensions in most cases which they do bring to Guyana, and which has a helping factor.
The Miss Guyana Universe/New GPC/Limacol, reminded them that we have the right climate and soil for vast agricultural projects to feed ourselves, the Caribbean and the world. She suggested that they partner with major international food processors to grow foods in Guyana which can be processed for export.
She noted as examples beans, carrots, mushrooms, coconut water and jelly and even oils, and fruits such as guavas that can be made into bulk jelly along with papaya and mangoes to be exported to international bakeries and supermarkets as condiments and fillers for pies. She said the opportunities are endless and she can go on listing them for about one week, drawing supportive laughter from her audience.
For those with service skills that can develop the country, she appealed to them to return and work in private and public corporations and industries in Guyana.
The Guyana Beauty Ambassador also zeroed in on the youths, the main target audience for her motivational speech. In this regard, she quoted from the late and great Mahatma Gandhi: “If we are to teach real people in this world, we shall have to begin with the children.”
Then she quoted the late Senator Robert Kennedy of the United States: “The world demands the qualities of youth; not a time of life but a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of imagination, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite of adventure over the love of ease.”
She told the youths that the world you live in, that the things you are surrounded by, they will be shaped by none other than your youth. Whatever struggle you may be going through, and there will always be struggles in life, you have the capacity to fix that for yourselves. So tonight I wish to say something to you from the depths of my heart………..” Have unreserved faith in God, the Creator and Sustainer and Cherisher, in whatever religion you may belong, even if no religion…….know with that Faith in God, that with confidence in your self as a unique person created with special powers to create, and harness the universal energies called the Universal Laws of Attraction, coupled with the powers of the great creative Gift of God to all human beings, the human imagination, you can achieve everything you wish to achieve! Remember please everyone, we need our failures as our successes, the failures, the disappointments, and the difficulties must be the catalyst, fires that turn matter into gold, difficulties into success.
“Ladies and gentlemen, fellow youths….I have tried and tested this power, and by the power in my chest which is the gift to all….. I conquered the odds, the envies, the jealousies, the critics, the saboteurs of life and opportunities, and made it to grand success, so can you, so can anyone. Be it illness, be it difficulties of a one-parent home, being that of a no parent home, we all can climb the stairway to the stars, and be whatever we wish to be, to achieve whatever we wish to achieve, be Masters of our Destiny, powerful, yet humble.”
She thanked the organisers for their invitation, and wished all well, and promised to see them whenever she can and to inform them whenever she visits the United States. The applause and love from the audience were overwhelming.
