Persaud victorious in Dookie & Sons inaugural feature race

ROBIN Persaud romped ahead of his rivals to win the inaugural Dookie and Sons sponsored inaugural feature 35-lap cycle race in the National Park yesterday.Persaud made his intention known from the second lap when Raynauth Jeffrey, Warren McKay, Paul Choo-We-Nam , Albert Philander and himself broke away from the pack and opened a sizeable lead on the other 37 starters.
But after 18 laps were completed, the chasing pack reeled the five leaders back into the bunch.
McKay, Persaud, Godfrey Pollydore and Choo-Wee-Nam subsequently broke away with five laps remaining and were never challenged again.
Persaud returned a time of one hour 18 minutes 32.13 seconds and in the process won four of the eight prime prizes that were up for grabs.
Philander placed second while Choo-Wee-Nam finished third.
Pollydore placed fourth, Marlon `Fishy’ Williams fifth and Wasim Gafoor sixth.
The other prime prizes were won by Jeffrey (three) and McKay (one).
In other results, Mario King won the 10-lap race for juveniles ahead of Jabar Crawford and Alonzo Ambrose respectively, while junior Niles was the winner of the veterans’ under-50 five-lap race. Second, was Andrew Arjoon and third Andrew Phang.
Maurice Fagundes, the only competitor in the veterans’ over-60 five-lap race completed the distance to win.
In the veterans’ over-50 age group, Linden Blackman came out on top ahead of Virgil Jones.
Mario King won the juveniles 10-lap race ahead of Crawford and Ambrose respectively, while Lennon Dick won the three-lap race for mountain bikers ahead of Ozia McAullay.
