Mason posts $60,000 surety in cellular phone theft case

A THIRTY-YEAR-OLD mason of Lot 1076 Cinderella Street, Amelia’s Ward, Linden, was yesterday ordered to post $60,000 surety for stealing a cellular phone.

Leon Cutting denied the allegation when the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Particulars said on Wednesday, October 13, at Hadfield Street, Georgetown, he stole from Travis Clark one HTC cellular phone valued at $160,000.
The defendant told the court that he did not steal the phone. He further indicated that on the day in question he was just a passenger in the bus that arrived from Linden.
Police prosecutor Corporal Bharat Mangru did not object to bail and the case will be called again on January 17, 2014.
