Victoria Village celebrates 174th Anniversary

Written By Alex Wayne
EXECUTIVES of the Cool Crew Promotions urge you to support them as they observe the 174th Anniversary celebrations of Guyana’s oldest village, Victoria.

President of that organisation, Mr Lynton Luke, said in a recent interview that in the month of November 2013, fellow Victorians and friends would be celebrating 174 years since the purchase of Plantation Northbrook by their fore-parents.

He said that, as history foretells, Northbrook was the first plantation bought by (83) ex-slaves, and was subsequently renamed Victoria in honour of Queen Victoria’s contribution to the ex-slaves’ thrust for economic independence.

The organisation has thus planned three weeks of activities under the theme, ‘Victorians striving for Greatness through Unity’.

Today, the village is slated to come alive, as Cool Crew Promotions and the people of Victoria launch the ‘174th Anniversary Celebration of Victoria’ at the Victoria Community Centre Ground.

Even as this mega event is happening, other locations around the village would also be hosting their own little entertainment promotions. As such, villagers would be entertained in fine style as the Main Point and Night Rider Hangout Bars host their ‘Victoria Fantasia’ simultaneously.

At the Victoria Ground, patrons would be treated to spectacular performances by talented artiste ‘Lil Million’, while juggling things in the music area would be TRS Sounds, Stereo Sonic, Gold Rock Sounds, and a surprise live band. This event is sponsored by STAG BEER.

Other events on the platter are the Victoria Day celebration on November 03, 2013, and a Quiz Competition on the history of the village, for children between ages nine and eleven. There will also be an Interfaith Church Service and Concert on Sunday, November 24, 2013.
