Written By Alex Wayne
AS was expected, the second showing of the 2013 Guyana Fashion Week runway collections took patrons on a dazzling journey filled with star-studded drops of glitz and glamour when the event wqs held at Rahaman’s Park on Saturday night last.

Basking in a setting that reeked of creative decor and alluring illumination, patrons perked up to attention some time after 21:00 hrs as the first designer, veteran Sonia Noel’s ‘Mariska’s Designs Hybred Collection’ took to the stage.

As the music pulsated all around, ultra-sexy models took to the stage, evoking ‘ooos’ and ‘aaaahs’ from the very appreciative audience. And the models all wore the signature makeup, ‘L. A. Colours’, made possible by the Giftland OfficeMax entity.

Sonia’s line was very enticing, and entailed a brilliance of lush fabrics in scintillating shades and hues. The pieces were creatively infused with bamboo and bead workings that spoke volumes for the designer’s talent and creativity.

And among the lovely models flaunting the pieces on the runway was former Miss Guyana World, Artie Cameron, who is officially the designated ‘face of GFW 2013’.

Sonia’s showcase also depicted exciting cuts and styling that must have certainly stirred up the fashion cravings of every male and female seated in the audience.

Roshini Boodhoo’s line was a striking clash of colours, interwoven in the dazzling hues and shades of modern disco. The metallic pieces depicted impressive swimsuits, party wear, and a few evening pieces. Her line was well received for a first timer.
Another designer shining on that night was runway diva and popular beauty queen Meleesa Payne, whose line took the runway by storm. Dreamy models flooded the stage showcasing some of the sexiest pieces ever seen in local fashion as Ms. Payne blazed a trail with provocative swimsuits, dashing cocktail wear, evening masterpieces, and a few cuts and styles for the more ‘adventurous at mind’. Her display left the audience clamouring for more as they voiced plans about which piece they were certainly going to purchase.

Nanda Burgess’s ‘Caribbean Abstraction’ was a twisting, bending blur of Caribbean shades. And she certainly made room for the curvy ladies, judging from the ‘big gals’ that scorched the runway as her line was showcased. Hers was the dawn of sexy summer pieces and dreamy gowns that reeked of sensual allure and romantic evening highlights.

The line of talented designer Neilson Nurse, dubbed ‘Coming of Age’, was a funky fusion of men’s wear with captivating cuts that left a lot to be desired.
And sponsors of the event, Giftland OfficeMax, also showcased their line in a very impressive showcase dubbed ‘Masculine Men’.

And the chosen models certainly took their finesse to the limit as they brought the moods of raunchy, captivating, irresistible and seductive to the stage, mixing it with a rich ‘Caribbean flava’.

Other very impressive designers were Tracy Douglas, Paula Evans, Gem Fraser, Paul Burnette, and Tyrone Nelson; but it was doubtless that all the designers were impressive and made Guyana Fashion Week 2013 a definite success.
