Water and power problems cancel scheduled surgeries at GPHC

POWER supply to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) was on Monday disrupted by a damaged internal power line, causing cancellation of several scheduled surgeries and X-Ray operations at that institution, and making the facility unable to fulfill its daily routine of pumping water into overhead tanks around the compound.

A GPHC press release, however, said the power supply situation did not affect the main building of the complex, and that power was restored to the affected parts of the GPHC by 13:00 hrs on Monday, but due to a damaged foot valve, water supply had remained interrupted.
The GPHC Public Relations Department said water flowing through the taps around the hospital complex yesterday was discoloured because the level in the reservoir was extremely low; and in order to remedy the problem affecting the foot valve, the water supply to the facility had to be shut off for approximately one hour.
Water resumed running through the taps sometime between 17:30 hrs and 18:00 hrs.
