just born,  but you smiled at me with trust
unblinking eyes – and I am charmed

Captured within flailing fists
Enraptured by tiny, starlike hands and scrunchy feet

And the circle in my world became complete

My eyes see a handsome young man
Standing on the cusp of discovery of self
But this grandma’s heart always envisions
A tiny babe that is my greatest wealth

A sweet and generous little boy
You share with others poor and in need
As you once shared all your toys
Your heart is never ensnared by selfish greed

My life assumed new meaning
You carved a universe of joy in a world I disdain
You redeem my every day of living
You are my silver lining after the rain

And I retort with utter scorn
Those who tried to devalue my love for you
You were mine since you were born
My special rainbow of dreams renewed

My fourteen year old baby boy
Let  your years and youth achieve dividends
