THE Georgetown Cricket Club’s hockey section dominated the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB)/Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) 2013 National Indoor Championships by carting off the Men’s and Women’s senior titles when the curtain came down on the tournament on Sunday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

The GCC men defeated their Hikers counterparts 2-0 on penalty flicks after the two sides were locked 5-5 at the end of regulation time.
Raphael DeGroot and Orland Semple scored for the GCC side while Eric Hing accounted for the other goals.
Robert France opened the scoring for Hikers in the sixth minute of play, but this lead was levelled as Kevin Spencer and Semple found their target almost immediately after.
The Bourda-based team extended their lead to 3-1 going into the interval as Steven Xavier struck home a neat shot.
The ever-present Shane Samuels came into the picture and made his presence felt, scoring in the second minute of the second session.
Two minutes later, GCC regained their two-goal lead as Spencer registered his double.
Not giving up, Hikers levelled the proceedings through Munroe and France in the 28th and 29th minutes respectively, but GCC countered with a Spencer third goal during the final minutes.
Hikers, however, did not give up as France rebounded with a timely goal to carry the game into penalty flicks.
In the ladies’ category, GCC Spartans upstaged their more senior counterparts GCC Tigers, 1-0, through an Aaliyah Gordon 26th minute goal.
In the veterans’ final, GCC, led by a helmet-trick by GHB president Philip Fernandes and a double from Philip’s sibling Alan crushed Hikers veterans 7-1.
In the second division final, Jamarj Assanah bagged five goals while his team mate Rayon Bradford scored a double to give Hikers Recruits a resounding 10-3 win over Old Fort.
Aroydy Branford, Travon Younge and Michael Harding netted one each for the Recruits. Shaquille Thomas scored a brace for Old Fort, while Mark Fraser found the back of the Recruits’ net once.
Hing of GCC was voted the Most Valuable Player in the senior men’s category, while Gordon received the accolade for the women’s category.
Philip Fernandes and Assanah were declared winners of the MVP awards in the veterans and second division categories respectively.
