The Guyana Taxi Drivers Association has raised its voice in condemnation of what they referred to as a “heinous crime” perpetrated against taxi driver, Mr. David Best, who was attacked by carjackers and left badly wounded in a street in Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, on Tuesday.
The following is a press release from the Association on the matter:
“We, the members of the Guyana Taxi Drivers’ Association, have learnt with horror about the attack on Mr. David Best, which occurred on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in the village of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
“We condemn this heinous crime which was perpetrated against Mr. Best and which has occurred against other taxi drivers who are going about their legitimate business.
“These attacks are becoming an unfortunate trend that is plaguing this industry and engenders great fear among taxi drivers as well as passengers.
“The organisation calls for greater vigilance among law enforcers and all stakeholders, with a view to limiting these attacks. We further call on all law-abiding persons to join with us in condemning such crimes and wish the victim of this attack a speedy and full recovery.”
