THE search for the body of 49-year-old Patrick Ramkellwan came to an end yesterday after it was discovered at approximately 08.05hrs.Yesterday the police confirmed that the body of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission worker was discovered in the vicinity of Lillydale in the lower Pomeroon River. This newspaper was informed that where the man’s body was discovered is not very far from where it went down on Saturday night.
Yesterday the Guyana Chronicle reported that the man was missing after he and two other friends who were under the influence joined a boat that later collided with another boat in the Pomeroon River, while both of the vessels were being operated without lights at approximately 22.00hrs.
On Sunday the Maritime Administration Department (MAD) stated that the missing man, along with two other friends, Edroy Gill, 22, Marlon Chappelle, 66, had earlier been patrons of a cricket match and were under the influence of alcohol when they boarded the boat.
It was while the boat was proceeding up the river that it collided with a vessel, suspected to be a fishing vessel that was being operated without lights. The collision caused Ramkellwan to be flung into the river.
MAD has expressed its regrets at the incident and promised that, as always, a proper investigation into the accident is being conducted.
