The Health Minister added that an investigation has been launched into the deaths of the woman and the baby, and by law the Maternal Committee has 14 days in which to present their findings to Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shamdeo Persaud.
The Health Minister told this publication that he extends his heartfelt sympathy to Bowman’s family on the passing of their relatives, and that no one should have to go through what they are going through.
New members have been added to the GPHC Board of Directors, and one of their aims is to reduce the incidences of maternal deaths at the GPHC. New training programmes would also be implemented at the GPHC so as to enhance the staff capacity and capability, according to Dr Ramsaran.
The mother of eight reportedly had labour induced when initially she was listed to give birth via Caesarean Section (C- section), and died on September 10 with one of the twin babies she had been carrying.
The woman was reportedly admitted to hospital on September 9. The following day, her blood pressure became uncontrollable, and she started to have seizures after labour was induced.
Efforts by this publication to contact CMO Dr Persaud proved futile.
