RAMESH Singh (no address given) appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Alli, on Tuesday, September 17, when he pleaded not guilty to an assault charge.
The allegation against him, at the Cove and John Court, is that he unlawfully assaulted his father, Balwan Singh, on Sunday, September 15, at their Low-Lands, Enmore home, also on the East Coast of Demerara.
Police Inspector John Singh, prosecuting, said the defendant went home about 20:00 hrs, under the influence of alcohol and started to abuse his father with a series of expletives.
He then picked up a cricket bat and dealt the man several blows on his hand and about the body while threatening to kill him.
Magistrate Alli granted the defendant $30,000 bail issued an order for him to remove from his father’s house until the court advises otherwise.
The 29-year-old man assured the court that he would adhere to the instruction and the case was adjourned to November 11, for report.
