24 year fear dead after falling from boat …father has hope son may be clinging to object in river

ADRIAN Glasgow, 24, also known as Son Son and Dr. Love, of lot 13 Railway Line, Industry, East Coast of Demerara, was missing up to press time last evening after he fell into the Essequibo River.

altHe was at a mining camp at Kuribrong operated by Japarts.
Information reaching the Guyana Chronicle revealed that Glasgow was sometime around 18.00hrs on Tuesday afternoon taking a bath at the riverside with approximately 30 other men when he jumped into a speed boat to make his way to the other side of the river.
It was reported that Glasgow, who is not known to be a swimmer, apparently could not control the boat and as he neared the bank on the other side, he opened the throttle, causing the boat to accelerate, and he fell into the water.
It is believed that he hit his head as he fell.
The men bathing on the other side all jumped into the river and swam to the spot to rescue him, but to no avail.
A Japarts manager told the Chronicle yesterday that the company is cooperating with the police on the matter and the men who were bathing in the river at the time will all make statements.
Glasgow has been working at the camp for the past three months and was employed as the person responsible for the camp stores, monitoring groceries and other items.
Yesterday when the Guyana Chronicle visited the home of the missing man, his mother was too distraught to speak. She sat in her living room sobbing.
Her husband is hoping that his son is alive and might be clinging to some object along the river bank.
The man said that he made his way home then to the office of the mining company on Camp Street in the city where it was confirmed that his son was missing after falling out of a boat.
According to the father of the missing man, his son might have breached the standard operating procedures of the company, since according to documents which his son signed to; he was not permitted to use the boats.
Yesterday two investigators from the city travelled to the area to assist in the investigation and aid in the search for the missing young man.
