PPP Central Committee holds meeting at Enmore -the first time in its history such a meeting was held outside of Georgetown

THE Central Committee of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) met on Saturday at Enmore, East Coast of Demerara and the meeting ended on a high note of optimism for a stronger and unified party. This is the first time in the party’s history that a Central Committee meeting was held outside of Georgetown, a release from the party said.

It noted that immediately after the conclusion ofthe meeting, Central Committeealtmembers broke up into groups and went on house-to-house visits in Enmore and the adjoining villages with a view to obtaining first-hand information on issues and concerns faced by residents in the various communities.
“The Central Committee reviewed the situation both at the international level and locally. The party expressed concern at the senseless loss of lives of hundreds of people in Syria and called for a speedy resolution of the conflict,” the release said.alt
It added: “At the local level, the party condemned the continuing attempts by the parliamentary Opposition to destabilise the development agenda of the PPP/C administration through the reckless use of its one-seat parliamentary majority. The opposition parties in this regard are aided and abetted by a hostile opposition media, in particular the Kaieteur News which continues to spew on a daily basis lies and slanderous statements against the government and state functionaries.”
According to the release, the meeting heard presentations from the party’s General Secretary, Mr. Clement Rohee and President Donald Ramotar and arising out of the presentations, a Framework of Action is being developed which also took into account the Central Committee Report,  Congress Workshops and the Political Declaration which was adopted at the recently-held PPP Congress.
The release said particular attention was paid to strengthening the party and making the party through its structures more proactive in terms of representing issues of concern to the masses to the relevant agencies both at the regional and district levels. The crime situation was identified as one of the areas that warranted a heightened and more robust attention by the authorities.
“Much emphasis was placed on putting the party into an election mode especially in view of impending Local Government elections. In this regard, the party has intensified work on community outreaches involving party members and activists. Hundreds of community and face to face meetings are being held throughout the country aimed at taking the party to the people and trying to find solutions to problems on the ground,” the release said.

The Central Committee also discussed plans to observe the 21st anniversary since the restoration of democratic rule in Guyana and the ascension of the PPP/C to the seat of government. Several activities are planned throughout the country, including three big rallies in Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice.
