Berbice Regional Health Authority has new board of directors

THE Berbice Regional Health Authority has a new board, which is mandated to reach out to a wider cross section of stakeholders in Regions 5 and 6 in a bid to improve health care delivery in the Ancient County.

altChaired by Mr. Bhigroog Poonai, the body comprises administrators, the private sector, and representatives from both the medical and nursing profession.
Speaking at the Board’s initial meeting recently, Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran, suggested that meetings adopt the ‘town hall’ settings, where the grass roots clientele and their complaints, irritations and concerns can reach the administration of the respective hospitals through the board, whose members will give guidance.
Guided by the Regional Health Authority Act 4:2005, the board seeks to be accountable for the delivery and administration of health services and health programmes.
The members of the newly elected board comprise Drs. Vishwa Mahadeo, Sharma and Narine; former Mayor of New Amsterdam,  Ms. Barbara Pilgrim–Roberts; Nurse/Midwife Wolette Scipio; Republic Bank Manager Joseph Downes; Ms. Avia Lindie, Manager of Metro Office Supplies; Mr. Rayon Peters, Vice Chairman of Region 5; and Harripersaud Chand.
