A Corentyne man is now in police custody after he allegedly killed an associate during an altercation at Lancaster Village, Corentyne on Thursday evening.
Ravindranauth Chand, 54, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port Mourant Hospital after he was taken there with a disfigured face and several wounds about his body.
Totatram Jageswar allegedly committed the heinous act with a piece of wood that was recovered by the police at an abandoned house which the deceased occupied.
Chand who hails from Sister’s Village, East Bank Berbice was said to be an alcoholic who roamed the streets and usually solicited money from persons whom he knew to purchase alcoholic beverages. Reports are that he and the suspect who is also a substance abuser, may have had a misunderstanding at around 19:00 hours which led to the fatal attack.
The deceased leaves to mourn his mother and five siblings. His body is at the Ramoo’s Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy which is expected to be performed today.
