GPL working to restore reliable electricity supply to Bartica – apologises for intermittent load-shedding taking place

MANAGEMENT of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) yesterday assured residents of Bartica that all measures are being taken to expedite restoration of a reliable electricity supply to that community.

Technicians successfully completed repairs to the unit, currently being tested on load, and two units would be sufficient to satisfy demand throughout the day and end the intermittent load-shedding that has been taking place.
Moreover, a third unit is being prepared for commissioning, along with establishment of a 13.8kV substation which would facilitate gradual upgrade of the Bartica distribution voltage from the existing 4.16kV to 13.8kV.
Distribution at the higher voltage would lead to improvement in the voltage levels for residents; and in the medium term, the company proposes, as part of its development and expansion programme to relocate the existing plant, while at the same time installing a new generating set of 2MV capacity.
GPL noted that the additional unit, which would operate on heavy fuel oil, would cater for growing demand in the area.
The utility company said it wanted to assure its valued customers that all efforts are being made to establish and maintain a stable and reliable electricity supply, and tenders its apologies for the disruptions experienced over the past few weeks.
