ECCCC square series with St Cuthbert’s Mission

HALF-centuries from West Indies Under-19 batsman Tagenarine Chanderpaul and the talented Vishwanauth Ramlakhan, coupled with a fine bowling display by 16-year-old Satesh Jainarine, helped Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club (ECCCC) to a 40-run victory over St Cuthbert’s Mission in the return game between the two sides last Sunday.

Centre ground, St Cuthbert’s Mission started with the psychological advantage having won the first encounter by 70 runs at home in March, but by the end of the day, fortuns were reversed as the ECCCC squared the two-match friendly series with a convincing win.
Batting first, ECCCC posted a commanding 213-5 from the allotted 30 overs on a lightning fast outfield thanks to Chanderpaul who led the way with an attractive 85, while Ramlakhan offered solid support with a fluent 53.

Former West Indies Under-19 leg-spinner and national first-class player Amir Khan also contributed to ECCCC’s total with 24, as all-rounder Timothy Andrews picked up 2 for 28 for St Cuthbert’s Mission, who responded with 173-7 when their overs ran out.
Andrews and R. Daniels were the leading scorers for the visitors with 28 each, as off-spinner Jainarine was the star performer for ECCCC, returning excellent figures of 4-18.
At the presentation ceremony, Chanderpaul was voted best batsman, Jainarine best bowler, while Andrews also received a trophy for his all-round effort, albeit in a losing cause in a match that was witnessed by a crowd of 200.
The ECCCC will be in action again tomorrow against Bravado in a 30-over game starting at 11:30hrs at the Enmore Community Centre ground.
The ECCCC squad is: Bheemraj Ramkellawan (captain), Chaitram Ramlall, Sheik Mohamed, Javed Mohamed, Vishwanauth Ramlakhan, Ranjeet Hiralall, Nandram Ganesh, Satesh Jainarine, Jacob Persaud, Mark Persaud, Mark Malone, Navindra Gobin, Naresh Persaud, Safraz Ali and N. Basdeo.
Meanwhile, young cricketers of the ECCCC will be exposed to a training seminar today with former West Indies all-rounder head coach of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Roger Harper, from 10:30hrs at the club.
After the session, the ECCCC will be involved in two games against Metro Office and Computer Supplies (tapeball) and Helena Over-40 team (softball) and following those games, President Donald Ramotar and other members of the Government will officially hand over refurbished sections of the club to its executives.
The administration had spent millions of dollars to rebuild a pavilion, two sightscreens, commentary box, sections of the perimeter fence and ticket booth. The handing over ceremony set for 16:00hrs.
